GameTech Takes Precautionary Measures Regarding Fixed Base Electronic Bingo Units

RENO, Nev., Sept. 25  -- GameTech International, Inc. a leading supplier of electronic bingo equipment, announced that the Company is working closely with Texas and Mississippi regulatory officials and voluntarily shut down its fixed-base electronic bingo units in both states. This action is being taken as a precautionary measure while the company meets with gaming officials to further ensure them of the integrity of the Company's fixed base bingo units. The Company's portable units, which make up the vast majority of electronic bingo units in operation, are not affected by this action.

The security of GameTech's fixed base units came into question after the Nevada Gaming Control Board began an investigation into the possible misuse of electronic bingo units by a former GameTech employee. The Company shut down use of fixed base units in Nevada on Monday night, pending review by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The fixed base units in Nevada, Texas and Mississippi generate approximately 13% of the Company's annual revenue.

"We are confident that we will soon be able to establish that our entire electronic bingo system is secure," said Clarence H. Thiesen, GameTech CEO. "From all indications, the employee misuse was limited to fixed base units in the Las Vegas area. However, we want to proceed with caution while we verify the soundness of GameTech's fixed base units."

GameTech officials confirmed the employee who allegedly misused the system was one of the developers of the Company's software and one of only a very few individuals with the level of knowledge to circumvent the many safeguards in the system.
